Aquaponics

According to the manufacturer, the Mocle Farm is a 3 in 1 product: a desklamp, an aquarium and a plant pot. Of course, you can read a paper under the light or let your goldfish swim in it, but we’re wondering how it all works in practice. Aquaponics is a food production method which unites aquaculture and hydroponics and it is definitely a concept with a future. The plants feed on the excrements of the fish and the fish eat the roots of the plants, whereby a closed ecosystem is created.

Mocle Farm

For us, the main concept is growing herbs and plants and this device is excellent for that purpose. With the control panel you select what you want to grow, and the device controls light and water supply so you don’t have to worry about this. Also, when you need to ad water or nutrients, the device will remind you. A great benefit of the Mocle Farm is that you can use your own seeds and the repeat products are cheaply and readily available. In short, the Mocle Farm does everything the AeroGarden does.

More info

If you want to purchase a Mocle Farm, you can choose between a transparent or non – transparent container. The former is great for keeping fish or monitoring root development. Once installed, the Mocle Farm measures 410 mm x 300 mm x 620 mm (460mm when the hood is all the way down). Both lights use 26 Watt each which makes the whole device use less that 60 Watt – including the pump.

Once you receive a Mocle Farm you can get going straight away as you will also receive the following:

  • 2 growlamps
  • 7 cups
  • 7 bio domes
  •    nutrients

"Our experience":

Functionality – wise, the Mocle Farm and the Aerogarden are identical. You receive automatic reminders when to add nutrients or water and you can customise the program so your plants receive the optimal amount of light and water. Of course, we experimented and tested both models for results. Our conclusion is that the growth results are very near. The real differences are in design (positive) and manual (negative). The shape of the Mocle Farm really surprised us given that the opinions varied and the majority seemed to like the circular design of the Mocle Farm better than that of the AeroGarden. The one negative aspect of the Mocle Farm is the rather messy manual. The problem is not so much the assembly guidelines, but the instructions on how to fill the cups. I can imagine that for people who are starting their first indoor garden this can be rather confusing. It’s clear that the creator of the Mocle Farm spent less on expensive marketing materials, which is a potential explanation for the difference in price.
