How does Genie work?

Genie is a plant pot with benefits. It’s a smart and elegant growth system in which kitchen herbs and leafy vegetables can flourish in ideal conditions. Ideal for fresh basil, parsley, coriander or rocket, to always have these flavourings at hand. Genie is fitted with two essential ‘features’, with which the plants are spoiled from above and below: a special LED lamp, and the Active Growing System.

The special growth promoting LED lamp of the Genie ensures that herbs and leafy vegetables get extra light, exactly the light they often lack indoors and due to the shortage of light the leaves of the herbs fade or start to droop. Thanks to the extra light the herbs grow faster and stay green and juicy.

You would not know it at first glance, but the bottom of the Genie contains a powerful piece of technology. The Active Growing System is an innovative plant growth system based on hydroculture. A system that is also used in large plant growth greenhouses and is now also available in a small series for home use.

The Active Growing System uses hydroculture, which delivers nutrients to the plant roots directly through water. So no soil is required to grow the plants. By means of an energy-efficient pump system, the water is constantly refreshed and provided with new oxygen. This also controls the temperature and keeps it constant. The perfect conditions for happy plants.

Because you probably already have a shortage of wall sockets in your kitchen, Genie uses (rechargeable) batteries. The LED strip on the side indicates the status of the batteries. On average they need to be replaced once every three to four months. The Geniie starter pack comes with special growth liquid.

 

Getting started with Genie

Growing your own herbs or vegetables is easy with Genie. You can put in ready-made herbal plants from the supermarket that will live a long life thanks to Genie. You can re-pot grown up cuttings from herbal plants in the garden in the Genie.

Step 1: Ready-made herbal plants - Do you feel like coriander? Basil? Or do you prefer sage? Or lettuce? At your greengrocer, supermarket, health food store or garden centre you can buy ready-made herbal plants for home use. Choose the plants to your taste and put them with their pot in the Genie. Three herb pots with a diameter of 8 centimetres, or one with a diameter of 15 centimetres fit in the Genie.

Step 2: Enjoying Genie - Switch on the lamp, fill the reservoir with water and growth liquid and… sit back. Genie will take care of your plants from now on. The water, enriched with growth substances, flows regularly past the roots of the plants to give the herbs everything they need. You can Genie switched on at all times. And if you feel like it, you can (carefully) harvest your own plants. If you harvest carefully, the herbs will grow back rapidly again with Genie, up to three times faster than normal.

Step 3: Maintenance - Genie requires very little attention: 15 minutes per month is all you need for happy herbs. Occasionally add water and growth liquid and change the water once every three weeks ‘et voilá’. So if you don’t have a green thumb, you’re often out, or you want to go on holiday: no worries. With Genie everyone can be a successful home-grower!
